Backcountry LR Target Interdiction Course.

The LR Target Interdiction Course is the non-LE version of our Advanced LR Course for police snipers.  This course gives up nothing from its original version from the skills and comprehension perspective; all we’ve done is remove protected tactics/techniques and procedural aspects specific to LE.  We’ve been teaching some form of this for over 10 years and we still look forward to these every time.  They are unique in several ways.

Our range is a vast amount of open desert primarily accessible through an agreement with a private landowner.  This gives us autonomy, limitless distance, and 360* of opportunity.

  •          It is located 6 miles from the nearest hardball road and 45 min from the closest town.  Self-sufficiency and commitment are valuable characteristics.

  •          Barring any unforeseen emergency or critical need, we stay on the range for the duration.  Tents and up to medium sized trailers are the norm as are propane stoves and bottled water.  Bring a shovel also.

  •          The nightly campfire conversations are as valuable as the formal training throughout the day.  So are the “survival” experiences when we get hit with a storm, and we’ve had a few epic ones.

  •          All training is conducted in whatever environmental conditions are present.  Sometimes this means great wind opportunities, other times conditions are ideal for data collection at each range line. And still others mean you’ll find out how well you and your gear work at 35* with sideways rain.

  •          You’ll have an opportunity to engage steel targets out to 1000yds, possibly longer (depending on class progression and terrain conditions); address multiple target arrays at varying distances; maximize the usefulness of your scope and reticle; and collect accurate data at yard lines most commercial ranges don’t offer.

This course is all about gaining experience and exposure to situations and conditions that are difficult or impossible to replicate with a pre-planned range day.  You’ll shoot off your belly on day 1with the rest of our time spent on, “make it work, engage your target.”  This means improvised positional shooting among rocks, trees, and tight spaces.  Concealment techniques are covered with an emphasis on detection avoidance from animals and trespassers or poachers.  We also introduce specific techniques from the Mil/LE sniper tool kit that allow you to quickly locate targets, effectively engage multiple targets at distance, make decisive wind calls, and efficiently communicate with those around you.  We have incorporated a trauma and basic EMT section to this course, instructed by certified personnel, that covers stop the bleed techniques, proper tourniquet application, and basic survival care.

Guest instructors in the past have included: Chris Cooke, Daniel Defense; Dave Mason, ModTac; Gerald Hooee, Hunting the Ancient Grounds; Gary Davis, Air Armor Tech; Leah Chang, Honor Tempe Hospital Medical Director for Emergency and Respiratory Therapy Depts; Josh Stabler, Hogsaddle; Dan McNamee, Two Vets Sporting Goods; Gene Hauenstein, Centermass Solutions; Phil Hayes, MCSO armorer, NRA High Master and CMP Distiguished Rifleman.
